The Federal Government has taken delivery of 699,760 doses of Astrazeneca Covid 19 Vaccine donated by the United Kingdom through the covax facility. Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency ( NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuiab, disclosed this to newsmen at the National Strategic Cold Store, Abuja. Shuiab, said that the vaccine will be deployed immediately to the States and would be administered as second dose to those who had earlier received only the first dose of the vaccine during the first phase of the vaccination rollout. He further said the federal government is also expecting more doses of the vaccine by the end of August. Meanwhile, Acting British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Atkins said the vaccine delivered to Nigeria is part of the 3 million doses that the UK donated to 11 countries across Africa to help fight against Covid 19. On his part, Country Representative of the World Health Organization, Walter Molumbo commended the the UK government for the gesture describing it as a big relief to many Nigerians on the waiting list for the second dose of the Astrazeneca vaccine Nigerians were however assured that all vaccines certified by NAFDAC are highly effective against COVID-19 virus including the Delta Variant.
