Indications from the All Progressives Congress suggest that the Supreme Court judgment on the Ondo State governorship election did not in any way fault the composition of the party’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State. A member of the CECPC, Prof. Tahir mamman made the party’s position known in an interactive session with Newsmen in Abuja. He said the apex court as established in the judgment stated that the Buni-led committee was on firm ground to proceed with its mandate as given by the National Executive Committee of the party. Mamman further explained the position of the law as reflected in relevant session of the electoral act as amended to drive home his position. He also used the occasion to make case for peace in the ruling party by urging aggrieved persons to withdraw their litigations. Recall that the Apex court in it’s judgment on the Ondo state Governorship election ruled that the Mai Mala Buni’s position as Acting Chairman of the CECPC is not contrary to the provision of Section 183 of the 1999 constitution indicating the position is on a temporary basis and does in no other way reflects an executive office or paid employment.
