Igboho, Kanu:Dual Citizenship Responsible For Secessionists Agitations, Insecurity – Babangida Aliyu

Former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu says with the agitation for secession in Nigeria, some aspects of the 1999 Constitution especially on dual citizenship and the place of traditional institutions in governance need to be changed. He made this known in Abuja at the Conference on Peace, Unity, and Nation-building. Babangida Aliyu who noted that the lapses in the country’s law created room for bandit attacks and wanton killings to thrive in local communities explained that some of the challenges confronting Nigeria was foretold, but that the warnings were ignored and now resulted to the current inflicting point the country has attained. Also speaking, the immediate past Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, said it was a lack of care for the people’s welfare and poor response of stakeholders to human capital development that was responsible for pockets of crisis in the country. For the Emir of Nasarawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin, traditional institutions were entirely powerless and handicapped due to lack of resources to solve problems in their domains. Meanwhile, Former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu says Nigeria need a law that would stop the spade of defection especially by serving governors from one political party to another. He however, described the situation as political prostitution.
