The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has indicated plans to capture 20 million new voters from the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise. INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this when a delegation from the Malawi Electoral Commission led by it’s chairman Justice Chipundo Kachala visited the commissions headquarters in Abuja. Prof Yakubu expressed optimism that the ongoing CVR exercise will boost the nation’s voters register with over 100 million persons ahead to the 2023 general elections. He further described the study tour by the delegation as apt in view of recent electoral gains by the Commission including expansion of voters access to polling units. Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Malawi Electoral Commission, Justice Chifundo Kachale said the essence of the study tour is to learn more about the Nigeria electoral system. He expressed hope that the outcome will guide the Commission as it concludes plans to embark on constituency and wards review exercise. Provisions in the Malawi Electoral Act indicates review of constituencies every 5 years,a task the delegation noted has not been implemented in the last 15 years.
