As the Nigerian Government kick start activities to commemorate the 2021 edition of the National Children’s day, the Minister of women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Pauline Tallen has called for renewed commitment to ensure children are given suitable opportunities and enabling environment to realize their potentials. Speaking at a joint press conference with the federal capital territory Administration held in Abuja, Mrs Tallen said the day is set aside by the federal government to raise awareness on the plight and needs of children as well as promote and protect their rights. She said the theme of this year’s edition was chosen to highlight the effects of Covid-19 on the wellbeing of the child, proffer solution as well as an assured future for them. Other speakers at the briefing including the representative of the United Nations Children Fund UNICEF, Peter Hawkins highlighted the threat of Covid 19 on the decade’s of progress made for children globally. The theme of the 2021 National Children’s day celebration observed every May 27 is ” Effect of Covid-19 on the total wellbeing of the child: the way forward.
