INEC Declares Attacks On State Offices National Emergency.

Five months to the Anambra Governorship elections, trends of attacks on state offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC especially in the south East is becoming a source of worry. This is as hoodlums on Sunday night of may 23rd 2021 attacked the Anambra state inec office burning down vehicles and pavilion which serves as collation center during major Elections. Confirming the incident, the state commissioner of Police, Chris Owolabi commended his men who gallantly to repelled the attack On his part, the Anambra state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nwachukwu Orji expressed joy that the damages caused the hoodlums were minimal. Meanwhile, the INEC headquarters Abuja through the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and voter Education, Bar. Festus Okoye wants the federal government to declare national emergency over the incessant attacks on the commission facilities. Okoye who was reacting to the latest fire incidents at the INEC offices in Anambra,Imo and Enugu states said the Commission will brief the government and relevant stakeholders on the development. According to the commission, over 50 percent of non sensitive materials for the Nov 6 Anambra state Governorship election was lost to the inferno including 7 utility vehicles among others.
