NCC Clarifies As Mixed Reactions Continue To Trail 5G Deployment In Nigeria.

The federal government through the Nigerian Communications Commission early in the month of May 2021 indicated plans to deploy fifth generation 5G technology network in the country. This is as the Commission had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) on the use of C- band spectrum for 5G services in Nigeria. While it is of note that telecommunication revolution from inception to date has led to improvements witnessed from deployment of 2G through to 4G technology in Nigeria, it has no doubt brought about increases in mobile usage and network performance. It is however surprising that despite indications from the NCC on the importance and relevance of the 5G network especially in the set target of changing the narrative in key sectors of the economy and indeed all sphere of governance, the policy has continue to attract mixed reactions from Nigerian Meanwhile, the NCC Insists it is on top of issues of concerns, misgivings raised about the technology. It remains to be seen how the NCC intends to weather the storm in it’s planned deployment of 5G network in Nigeria inview of resolution of the Nigerian senate urging the Commission to suspend the exercise till further notice.
