The federal government is exploring Research in the use of Bitumen For Road Construction. This is as Nigeria accounts for one of the largest deposits of Bitumen natural sands in the world with an estimated reserve of over 42 billion barrels. Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu have the indication while declaring open the 2021 Nigeria Building and Road Reserve Institute (NBRRI) first international virtual conference on Abuja. Onu who said the research is been carried out based on international standard said the target is to put to a stop Importation of the mineral resources into the country. The Minister further highlighted other interventions of the institute in the nation’s construction industry. Earlier in his Remarks, chairman of the NBRRI board, William Wadni described Nigeria’s construction industry as one of the fastest in the world, hence the urgency to initiate suitable reforms. The theme of the 2 day international conference is ” Circular Economy in the Built Environment for Enhanced Performance of the Nigerian Construction Industry.
