FG Reviews Timeline For Passport Application To Six Weeks.
The federal government has introduced reforms aimed at ensuring the passport application processing time by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) takes six weeks. Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregebesola gave the indication at a meeting with the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Passport Officers and Attaches in Nigerian Missions Abroad held at the NIS headquarters in Abuja. The Minister said the gesture is targeted at changing the narrative in the nation’s passport processing system to ensure a more seamless and transparent operations. He added that several challenges in the past, including shortage of passport booklets, touting, racketeering among others will now be a thing of the past. Aregbesola further disclosed key security features imbedded in the new order. Earlier in his remarks, the NIS Comptroller General, Mohammad Babandede indicated reasons that led to the new policy.
