2021 Expo: Buhari Allocates 0.5 Percent GDP To Research, Innovation.
As the 2021 edition of the Technology and Innovation expo kickstart in Abuja, President Mohammadu Buhari has assured of his administration commitment to allocate 5 percent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic product GDP to Research and Innovation as part of efforts to accelerate national development. The president gave the indication while declaring open the expo organised by the federal ministry of science and technology at the eagle square Abuja. Represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Buhari said the federal government will continue to support the science, technology and Innovation by expanding opportunities and potentials of the Sector. The nation’s number one citizen further disclosed ongoing plans to achieve 90percent broadband penetration in Nigeria by 2025. Meanwhile, earlier in his remarks, Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu said key among targets of the expo includes commercializing innovations into finished products and services. Highlights of the 5 day expo with the theme Science, Technology and Innovation for Economic recovery and sustainability amidst Covid-19 challenges was presentation of prices and presidential awards to top three young Nigerian scientists. Other activities includes tour of exhibition pavilions by the vice president and other too Government functionaries. The expo will be declared closed on Friday March 19,2021.
