UBEC’s Un-accessed Fund Hits Over N41bn – Bobboyi

Information from the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC indicates that the 36 states and the federal capital territory are yet to access over N41 billion naira matching grant as at 8 March, 2021.  Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi, made this known during an oversight visit to the Commission by the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education in Abuja.  He said while about N143 billion matching grant was accessed by states and FCT from 2017 to 2020, out of the N184.8 billion that was made available by the Commission, the 2020 edition is yet to be accessed.   Bobboyi further gave a breakdown of projects the Commission executed under the current budget cycle. Earlier, the acting Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, Senator Akon Eyakenyi,  said the team was at UBEC to assess its activities in line with the mandate of the Senate. The need to establish special schools across the states of the Federation as part of effort to address the challenges of out of school children was also highlighted at the oversight visit.
