The International Women’s Day is celebrated every March 8 to reflect on progress made to call for change and also celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. The theme of this year’s edition is Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal future in a covid19 world, which the Director General of the National Centre For Women Development,Mary Ekpere- ETA says serves as a reminder of the need to highlight the burden of covid-19 on women livelihood and how women led countries showed great leadership in tackling the pandemic that became best practices across the world for others to follow. Addressing a news conference to commemorate the day in Abuja, the NCWD boss highlighted the centred intervention efforts to cushion the effect of the pandemic on women While regretting that Nigeria representation of women at both elective and appointive position have continued to deteriorate, Mrs Ekpere- ETA disclosed plans by the centre to roll out a campaign targeted at changing the narrative. She added that the Centre in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics is carrying out documentation of unpaid Care work in Nigeria with the aim to reduce it’s burden on women.
