As the National Assembly begins deliberations on the nomination of the immediate past service chiefs as non career Ambassador-designates, a Civil Society group says the letter by President Muhammadu Buhari to the lawmakers in that effect was a step in the right direction. This was on the heels where Some Nigerians saw the action as a reward for failure by the President while to others it was a way of shielding the Ex-Service chiefs from being prosecuted by the International Criminal Court for alleged genocide and crime against humanity. Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Chairperson, Conference of Civil Society of Nigeria, Adams Otakwu said the nomination is a blessing to Nigeria as it will afford the country the opportunity to share its security experience with the diplomatic communities. The group also called on the Nigerian Senate to expedite action in the confirmation of the Ambassador-designates as well as the new service chiefs in order for them to hit the ground running especially in this critical period of security challenges.
