Respite may soon come the way of Nigerian teachers as the federal government inaugurate the national implementation committee on the revitalisation and repositioning of the teaching profession in Nigeria. Inaugurating the committee in Abuja, minister of Education, Adamu Adamu told the committee that their assignment is a critical part of government response to the emergency situation in the sector with key focus to on the dearth of qualified and dedicated teachers to enhance quality teaching and learning at all level of the nation’s education system Chairman of the committee and permanent secretary, federal ministry of education, sonny Echonu in his response restated belief in efforts to deliver on their terms of reference. The committee is expected to come up with implementable strategy for realisation of recently approved incentives for teachers by President Mohammadu Buhari top of which includes career path policy for teachers, extension of retirement age to 65 years and teaching service years to 40 among others.
