Defence Ministry To Receive CNG Buses Under New Clean Energy Partnership
The Ministry of Defence has entered into a partnership with the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (Pi-CNG & EV) aimed at easing transportation challenges for staff and advancing the adoption of clean energy within the defence sector.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the initiative led by its Chairman, Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Musa said the Armed Forces of Nigeria present significant opportunities for expanding the use of clean energy in the country’s transportation sector. He noted that embracing compressed natural gas and electric vehicle technology would strengthen military operations across the country.
According to the Minister, the Armed Forces possess the human and technical capacity required to support the Federal Government’s drive to increase the use of cleaner energy sources in transportation.
Speaking during the visit, Ahmed said the initiative was seeking collaboration with the Ministry to accelerate gas consumption and promote the transition to cleaner energy solutions within the defence sector.
As part of the partnership, he announced plans to deliver CNG-powered buses to the Ministry of Defence to support staff transportation and encourage the adoption of sustainable energy alternatives.
Ahmed also urged the Ministry to prioritise cleaner and more sustainable energy sources in meeting its transportation needs.
