Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to existing military agreements with Germany and pledged to strengthen strategic defence cooperation between both countries.

Musa gave the assurance on Saturday while receiving the German Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Stefan Rössel, and his delegation at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

The minister said the Federal Government would ensure the effective deployment and maintenance of defence equipment and other support assets provided by Germany to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

He also assured the delegation that operational and administrative concerns raised during the meeting would be addressed promptly.

Musa expressed appreciation to the German government for its sustained support to Nigeria’s military, particularly in the area of medical assistance for troops.

He recalled previous engagements with Germany during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff and described the bilateral relationship as productive and mutually beneficial.

Earlier, Ambassador Rössel conveyed Germany’s condolences to the Nigerian government, the Armed Forces, and families affected by the recent Nigerian Air Force plane crash.

The ambassador said his visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing security cooperation, and exploring additional areas of operational support between the two countries.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding defence collaboration and supporting a multilateral security framework capable of addressing shared security challenges.
