The Nigerian Embassy in Qatar has cut passport processing times to about two weeks, enabling applicants to receive newly issued or renewed travel documents significantly faster than under typical diplomatic processing timelines.
The development followed a 10 day passport intervention exercise held in Doha from August 11 to 21, 2026, during which embassy officials processed applications from 751 Nigerian nationals.
The applications comprised 441 requests for five year passports and 310 for 10 year passports.
Distribution of the completed passports began on September 18, less than a month after the biometric capture exercise ended, allowing successful applicants to receive their documents within about two weeks of capture.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, described the faster turnaround as a significant milestone in the mission’s efforts to improve consular services.
“The fact that passports are now being completed and returned within about two weeks of capture demonstrates our commitment to improving service delivery and responding to the needs of our community,” Yakubu told reporters.
He said the mission recognizes the importance of valid passports to Nigerians abroad, particularly for international travel, employment and maintaining legal residency status.
The initiative comes amid growing demand for consular services from Nigeria’s expatriate community in Qatar and reflects efforts by the embassy to respond more quickly to passport and other documentation needs.
