The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has commended the Federal Government for releasing funds to settle eight months of accumulated Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) owed eligible academic staff in federal tertiary institutions.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and Secretary, Segun Ogedengbe, the group said the payment covers the period from January to August 2026 and is in line with the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) agreement.
TMV said the payment would apply to eligible academic staff across federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
The group described the release of the funds as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing the agreement, saying it could help promote stability in the academic calendar of tertiary institutions.
“We note that the payment is in line with the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) Agreement,” the statement said.
“It is also gratifying that the payment is to be applied across the federal government universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.”
TMV also commended what it described as the prompt payment of salaries and allowances to tertiary institution workers under the current administration, as well as assurances concerning retirement benefits for academic and non-academic retirees.
The group further said disputes between the Federal Government and ASUU over salaries and allowances had persisted for more than two decades, resulting in repeated industrial actions in the tertiary education sector.
The statement attributed recent stability in the sector to measures taken by the Tinubu administration.
