The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have fixed ₦4,000 as a one time fee for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results.
The two examination bodies also directed tertiary institutions to use candidates’ verified results shared by JAMB and stop demanding additional payment for another verification exercise.
The resolutions were contained in a joint statement issued by JAMB and WAEC on the implementation of the newly introduced WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once through JAMB, after which the outcome will be made available to the relevant institution.
“Candidates are to pay ₦4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’ Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” the statement said.
JAMB and WAEC said tertiary institutions must utilise the verified results provided by JAMB for screening, admission processing and other administrative purposes.
“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” they added.
The agencies said WAEC had authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission related purposes.
They explained that the one time verification system was designed to eliminate repeated verification and reduce the financial and logistical burden on candidates seeking admission.
According to the statement, candidates will be able to initiate the verification process from their homes or any internet enabled location, reducing the need for repeated visits to institutions or JAMB approved Computer Based Test (CBT) centres.
The agencies therefore urged candidates to take advantage of the new arrangement by verifying their WASSCE O’Level results once through the JAMB provided Verification Service.
They stressed that a successfully verified result would subsequently be available for use by the relevant institution, eliminating the need for candidates to repeat the process.
JAMB and WAEC said the collaboration was aimed at reducing unnecessary costs and simplifying the admission process while safeguarding the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.
The two bodies reiterated their commitment to putting candidates’ interests first through a more convenient and streamlined O’Level result verification system.
