Nigerian military has arrested a suspected notorious bandit leader, Sanusi Maigilas, during an operation in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Maigilas, believed to be a prominent bandit leader operating within the Danmusa forest axis, had reportedly been on the radar of security agencies due to his alleged involvement in criminal activities across parts of the state.

The arrest followed sustained military operations and intelligence-led efforts aimed at tracking and disrupting the activities of terrorist and bandit groups operating in Katsina State.

Security sources said the arrest is expected to support ongoing operations by providing valuable intelligence that could assist in dismantling criminal networks and tracking other criminal elements operating in the region.

Reacting to the development, community leaders and residents who commended the military for the arrest, described it as a positive step in the fight against banditry and insecurity.

They expressed hope that information obtained from the suspect could aid further operations and contribute to improved safety in affected communities.

Security experts noted that the arrest could pave the way for further intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in Katsina and neighbouring states.

They observed that information obtained from the suspect may assist security agencies in identifying additional suspects, possible hideouts and operational methods used by bandit groups in the region.

The next phase of military operations is expected to focus on intelligence gathering, surveillance and targeted actions against criminal elements linked to the suspect.

Enhanced collaboration among security agencies and continued engagement with local communities are also expected to support efforts to strengthen security and prevent future attacks.

The operation forms part of broader efforts by the military to sustain pressure on terrorist and bandit formations across Katsina State and other areas within the Joint Operations Area.

Security forces have continued to conduct intelligence-driven operations aimed at restricting the movement of criminal elements and enhancing security in vulnerable communities.

The military however, reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing operations against terrorist and bandit groups as part of efforts to restore peace, stability and normalcy across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
