The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has urged Nigerian youths to channel their energy, creativity and influence towards building stronger communities rather than being manipulated into violence and destruction.
The IGP made the call while delivering his closing address at the International Youth Day 2026 National Youth Leadership and Security Initiative of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.
Disu challenged young Nigerians to promote peace over violence, dialogue over conflict, truth over misinformation and nation building over destruction.
He said the Nigeria Police Force would continue to promote preventive policing, responsible digital citizenship, peaceful democratic participation and stronger partnerships between the police and young people.
The representative of the FCT Minister, Adamu Gwory, also urged the youths to play an active role in nation-building and contribute positively to the development of their communities.
The three-day summit, held under the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” featured panel discussions, a walkathon, tree planting exercise and other activities focused on promoting youth participation in national development and strengthening relations between the police and young Nigerians.
