Accord Welcomes Judgement Voiding De-Registration Of Five Political Parties
The Accord Party has welcomed the Court of Appeal judgment nullifying a Federal High Court ruling that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-register the party and four others.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, the party described the appellate court’s decision as a victory for democracy, the rule of law and due process, saying it reaffirmed public confidence in the judiciary and strengthened Nigeria’s democratic process.
Accord said the judgment restored its legal status and safeguarded the rights of political parties to participate in the country’s democratic process.
The party further alleged that the suit was intended to prevent Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, from participating in the August 15 governorship election in the state.
It expressed confidence that the governor would emerge victorious at the polls.
According to the statement, Accord met all the constitutional and legal requirements for its registration and had previously won elections, arguing that it should not have been included in the suit seeking its de-registration.
The party recalled that the Court of Appeal had earlier granted a stay of proceedings on May 22, 2026, and a stay of execution on June 16, 2026, pending the determination of the appeal.
Accord also thanked Nigerians who, it said, condemned the Federal High Court judgment, describing the Court of Appeal’s ruling as a landmark decision that reinforces democratic principles and the rule of law.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and called on Nigerians to support its vision of building a stable, inclusive and prosperous nation.
