COAS Charges 18 Brigade To Neutralise Bandits, Prioritises Personnel Well-being

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of personnel and their families as a core strategy for operational success.
​During a working visit to the 18 Brigade at Latini Barracks in Bida on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, General Shaibu emphasized that enhanced welfare measures are essential to boosting troop morale and ensuring sustained effectiveness in the field.
​In a statement issued by the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele and madeavailabletoChannelNetworkAfrique, CNA, the COAS noted that the well-being of the force is receiving “serious and continuous attention” under his leadership.
​Infrastructure and Empowerment Plans
​To address living conditions within the barracks, General Shaibu disclosed plans for the construction of additional accommodation facilities. Furthermore, he announced the establishment of skills acquisition centers designed to provide economic empowerment for the families of soldiers.
​Operational Mandate
​While commending the troops for maintaining relative peace within their Area of Responsibility, the Army Chief urged them to remain aggressive in their operations. He specifically charged the brigade to continue degrading and neutralizing bandits and terrorists to restore public confidence and strengthen regional security.
​The visit concludes a series of engagements aimed at assessing the readiness and living conditions of troops stationed in the North Central zone.
