Nigerian Army Disrupts Bandits’ Strike On Wase Communities, Arms Recovered

Troops of the 3 Division, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP) has successfully thwarted a planned attack on communities in Plateau State during the early hours of 2026.

​The encounter, which occurred on January 1, 2026, resulted in the neutralization of five bandits and the recovery of several weapons.

​According to a statement released by Captain Joshua John, the acting Media Information Officer for JTF OPEP, the operation was intelligence-led.

Troops conducted an ambush after receiving reports that bandits had mobilized from Dutsen Zaki and were moving toward the Odare Forest in the Wase Local Government Area.

The military indicated that the group intended to launch attacks on nearby settlements.

​During the ensuing firefight, five members of the armed group were killed, while several others escaped. In the aftermath, security forces recovered two AK-47 rifle magazines
​11 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition, two machetes and one knife.

​The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of the JTF, Major General EF Oyinlola, stated that the offensive is part of the ongoing “Operation PEACE SHIELD.”

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the Joint Operations Area and urged residents to continue assisting security agencies with credible information.

​Military officials confirmed that troops are currently trailing the fleeing remnants of the group.

The JTF further warned criminal elements in the region to cease their activities or face “decisive military action” as operations continue to stabilize the state.
