UBEC Condemns Kebbi School Attack, Mourns Slain Teacher And Abducted Students.
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has strongly condemned the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, carried out in the early hours of Monday.
In a statement released in Abuja, UBEC Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, expressed deep sympathy to the Kebbi State Government, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the people of the state. She said the Commission stands with the grieving families whose lives have been upended by the incident.
Garba described the teacher who lost her life in the attack as “a brave soul who made the ultimate sacrifice while doing what teachers across our nation do every day caring for and protecting our children.”
She also extended solidarity to the families of the abducted girls, assuring them that UBEC shares in their pain, fear, and hope for the safe return of their children. Prayers were also offered for the injured staff member and all others affected.
“UBEC remains committed to working closely with government partners, community leaders, security agencies, and SUBEBs including the Kebbi State Government to strengthen school protection, support affected communities, and ensure that no child’s education is disrupted by fear,” the statement added.
Garba reaffirmed the Commission’s solidarity with the people of Kebbi State, noting that the nation mourns alongside them and remains resolute in ensuring that schools remain safe spaces for learning.
