This is one of the success story of the School based management committee initiative (SBMC) established in 2012 with support from the Department for International Department (DFID) to address the menace of out of school children in Nigeria. Nigeria currently has over 10 million out of school children, a situation that has become worrisome and has prompted government and several international development partners like the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) and other relevant stakeholders to come up with various policy drives aimed at changing the status quo. It is in view of the foregoing, that the Nigerian Council on Education rising from its 52nd meeting took the bold step of setting up the SBMC initiative, targeted at community participation in school decision making process.
