The Federal Government has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Board of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), with a charge to rid the education system of unqualified teachers.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Marufu Olatunji Alausa, underscored the critical role of the council in raising standards in the teaching profession.
Alausa emphasized that ensuring teachers are properly trained and innovative in their approach is vital for national development.
Responding on behalf of the Governing Board, the Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Saliu who expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the members, appealed for the restoration of government funding to the council, citing the financial constraints currently facing the agency.
In her remarks, the Registrar of TRCN, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to upholding professional standards among Nigerian teachers.
The inauguration marks a renewed focus on professionalizing the teaching workforce and improving education delivery across the country.
