INEC To Conduct Bye-Elections In 12 States, Announces CVR Resumption.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled August 16, 2025, for the conduct of outstanding bye-elections in 16 state constituencies across 12 states in the country.

In addition, the Commission will conduct two court-ordered re-run elections in Enugu South State Constituency (Enugu State) and Ghari Tsanyawa State Constituency (Kano State).

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu who disclosed this during the second consultative meeting with the leadership of political parties held in Abuja stated that party primaries for the bye-elections will take place between July 17 and 21, 2025.

Yakubu, however, clarified that bye-elections will not be held in Khana 2 constituency Rivers State and Talata Marafa South constituency Zamfara state.

INEC Chairman further announced that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise will resume on August 18, 2025, with a detailed schedule of activities to be released in due course.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle, urged INEC to “walk the talk” by ensuring the bye-elections reflect the true will of the people.

The Council also called on political parties to strictly adhere to the provisions of their constitutions to ensure peaceful and credible primaries.
