Breaking: No Going Back On Online TV/Radio Regulation – Lai Mohammed.
The Nigerian government says there is no going back on the regulation of online television and radio stations in the country. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who disclosed this in Abuja at the 5th Annual Lecture to commemorate the 27th Year Anniversary of the National Broadcasting Commission said President Muhammadu Buhari has already approved the licensing of online radio and television stations in Nigeria as part of effort to sanitise the industry. Represented by the Director, Public Orientation, Pricila Ihuoma, the Minister emphasised that with the registration, issues of fake news would be nipped in the bud. To set the tone of the event, the Director General, National Broadcasting Commission, Is’haq Modibbo Kawu urged broadcast media owners to operate in line with international best practices stressing that, broadcast industry must use every knowledge at their disposal to tackle contemporary challenges facing the nation. The theme of the 5th Annual Lecture is, Contemporary Challenges of the Nigerian State, Need For Constructive Broadcasting.
