The Federal Government has unveiled 50 locally authored textbooks for tertiary institutions sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Unveiling the books at the TETFund Headquarters in Abuja, the minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa expressed optimism that the gesture will bridge the gap of indigenous authorship and book publications in Nigeria.

The Minister directed that the 50 textbooks covering various subjects be distributed to libraries of tertiary institutions at no cost, with subsequent publications to be made available digitally.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arch Sonny Echono identified insufficient high-quality tertiary level textbooks in Nigeria as reason for the intervention.

Speaking on behalf of the Technical Advisory Group, the Chairman, Prof. Albert Abegunde explained that the 50 textbooks, categorized under nine areas, aimed to promote literacy, preserve culture, expand technology, encourage entrepreneurship, and foster research and innovation.

The 50 textbooks cover various subjects, including History, Women and Gender, Literature in English, Communication and Media, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
