0 300

The incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen no doubt necessitated the proposed plan by the Nigerian government to implement the Rural Grazing Area RUGA initiative. As expected, the proposal attracted reactions and condemnation from across the country forcing the government to suspend its implementation. Having failed with the RUGA concept, the government is considering another initiative, the National Livestock Implementation Plan, NLTP. Speaking at a Stakeholders Dialogue On Communicating Government Policies, Programmes and Activities, Director General of National Orientation Agency, Garba Abari, established that the NLTP, unlike what many Nigerians are assuming was quite different from RUGA and as such called for the input of all Nigerians to ensure its success. Stakeholders who graced the occasion also weighed in on the policy. The Nigerian armed forces, religious leaders, royal fathers, civil society groups, farmers, cattle breeders among others were some of the stakeholders who partook in the one day roundtable.
