On the first of July 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari sacked embattled Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, after 10 months of investigation for alleged fraud, corruption, gross misconduct among other accusations leveled against him. He however appointed, Mohammed Sambo as the new Executive Secretary of the Scheme. On his arrival at the NHIS headquarters and subsequent maiden meeting with staff, Prof Sambo assured them of his commitment to work inline with the mandate of the scheme especially in the area of universal health coverage for all Nigerians.
