Zamfara Kidnap: NYSC Denies Payment Of Ransom For Rescue Of Corps Member.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brig General Yushual Ahmed has announced the rescue of a prospective Corps member, Solomon Bassey who was abducted in August 2023.

Solomon alongside 10 other prospective Corps Members were travelling in a commercial bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State, for the one-year mandatory national service, when their vehicle was intercepted by suspected terrorists.

Report indicates that while three of the corps members escaped during the attack, eight others were abducted alongside the driver.

Addressing a news conference at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja, General Ahmed who confirmed that Solomon was rescued on Thursday 22nd August by the military and other Security agencies restated the commitment of the scheme to the security and welfare of Corps Members at all times The NYSC boss was also quick to clarify that there was no payment of ransom in the rescue of all the prospective Corps members.

General Ahmed further said that all the rescued corps members would be issued discharged certificates. The NYSC boss advised Corps members to always prioritize their personal security and stop travelling at night.
