Edo,Ondo Polls: INEC Urges Security Agencies On Peaceful Elections.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof Mamood Yakubu has tasked security agencies to leave no stone unturned in dealing with potential threats to the peaceful conduct of the Edo and Ondo Governorship elections.

The INEC Chairman who gave the indication at a meeting of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security held at the commissions headquarters in Abuja, emphasized the critical role of security personnel in ensuring peaceful, transparent, and credible elections.

Yakubu who raised concerns over the possibility of armed state and non-state actors disrupting the peaceful conduct of the polls, urged the security agencies to ensure the election processes are not disrupted.

In his remarks,the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu represented by the Director of Internal Security, Hassan Abdullahi warned against plans to undermine the conduct of both Governorship elections as any attempt to disrupt the process would be met with the full force of the law.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun represented by the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election security , Lanre Ogunlowo on his part assured of joint efforts by the police and other security agencies to ensure free and fair credible Governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.

The meeting which later entered into a closed door session is also expected to discuss other security related issues including the code of conduct and rules of engagement for security personnel on election duty.
