The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said flood occasioned by heavy rain fall on Saturday destroyed part of its state headquarters building in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

A statement by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of INEC said as a result of the flood, several moveable and immoveable items, including machines being configured for the continuous voter registration exercise, which begins on Monday were affected.

He said the commission is delivering additional machines from neighbouring states to make up for the shortfall.

“We are determined to ensure that the CVR in all the 192 Wards across Edo State will proceed on Monday 27th May 2024 as scheduled.

“However, in view of the emergency situation, the state headquarters will not serve as a registration centre as planned. Instead, the exercise will now take place in our Ikpoba Okha L.G.A. office located at 16 customs road, off Benin/Auchi Road, Benin City.

The commission said it has reported the incident to security agencies and emergency services in the state.
