It was a price monitoring and surveillance exercise in a densely populated market in Masaka a suburb of Nasarawa State by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC.

The move was part of the commission’s effort to discourage unfair pricing by encouraging healthy competition among traders.

The first point of call by the commission was the market’s union office to inform the leadership of their mission.

Speaking shortly after the engagement, the Director of surveillance and investigations, FCCPC, Boladale Adeyinka said complaint from consumers necessitated their action.

The leader of the enforcement team also felt the pulse of the traders.

The market union and the traders deferred on the aspect of alleged extortion and outrageous levy imposition.

The surprise raid of markets by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission across the country will also help in unlocking the anti-competitive tendencies of cartels as well as bring sanity to the economy.
