As orthodox churches world over commemorate the beginning of Lent, some Catholic faithfuls in Abuja, Nigeria have called on the government to respond to the suffering of the people.
Parish Priest at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Reverend Father, Jimbili Moses made the call at the occasion of the 2024 Lent in Maitama, Abuja.
He said the government has every responsibility to take care of the wellbeing of its citizens and not to neglect them.
The Catholic Priest while speaking on the significance of the day, admonished Christians to remain faithful, prayerful and peaceful for the overall benefit of the nation.
He added that lent is a season for sobber reflections for Christians to renew their hearts. Channel Network Afrique, CNA, also spoke to some worshippers on the importance of the day.
This year’s Ash Wednesday coincided with Valentine’s which in many quarter is seen as lovers’ day.
Some worshippers where seen with symbol of cross inscribed with ash on their foreheads which according to them is a sign of remember that one is from dust, and to dust they shall return.
