Self Sufficiency: Nigeria To Increase Investment On Sugar Sector – NSDC

The National Sugar Development Council said more investments will be done in the sugar sector through the effective implementation of the Nigerian Sugar Masterplan.

Executive Secretary, NSDC, Mr Kamar Bakrin who disclosed this when members of the Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria paid him a visit in Abuja said the Council has commenced revitalization of the Nigerian Sugar Institute in Kwara State in order to achieve production of two million seedlings.

He explained that the seedling would be supplied to operators to help them fast track the development of sugar in their state.

The Sugar Council helmsman said the agency has also identified three strategies that would help grow the sugar sector through its Master Plan.

Mr. Bakrin however noted that the masterplan launched in 2012 with a number of targets is aimed at assisting Nigeria attain self sufficiency in sugar production.
