ECOWAS Responds To Exit Claims By Burkina Faso, Mali & Niger

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has reacted to the broadcast on Malian and Nigerien national television, claiming their sudden withdrawal from the regional bloc along with Burkina Faso.

This was contained in a statement signed by the ECOWAS Commission and made available to Channel Network Afrique (CNA).

The statement which frawn at the move by the three Francophone countries said the body is yet to received any official notification regarding their intention to leave.

“The ECOWAS Commission, acting on the mandate of the Authority of Heads of State and Government, has been actively engaged with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger in efforts to restore constitutional order.”

Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have faced political crises in recent months, leading ECOWAS to intervene.

According to the statement, “Despite the media announcement, the Commission maintains its stance that Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali remain vital members of the Community.

“The Authority of Heads of State and Government remains committed to finding peaceful resolutions through dialogues and negotiations.

“The ECOWAS Commission continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates as developments unfold.”
