he Labour Party has approved the commencement of the sale and submission of expressions of interest and nomination forms for the Edo State election.
According to statement by Obiora Ifoh, National Publicity Secretary of the Party on Wednesday in Abuja,the sale of the forms will commence from January 25 to February 11, 2024.
He said five million naira was approved as fees for Expression of Interest form with the Nomination Form pegged at Twenty Five Million Naira.
The party further exempted female aspirants from paying for the expression of interest form.
Part of the statement reads:“Arising from the meeting of the NWC of the Labour Party under the chairmanship of Julius Abure, the party’s leadership took a far-reaching decision on the Edo election.
“This is with regards to the guidelines for the conduct of congress and primaries to elect candidates for the Edo gubernatorial election.
“They include the NWC’s approval of sales of forms to all interested aspirants from the state who are Nigerians or residents in the state.
Ifoh added that the Committee approved indirect primary elections, wherein ward and local government congresses shall hold to elect the party’s flag bearers.
He disclosed that February 14 was approved for the screening of aspirants; February 22 for the primary election; and February 23 for the resolution of disputes or appeals arising from the primaries, if any.
Also, the NWC passed a Vote of Confidence on its National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure for effectively piloting the affairs of the party and giving it a proper direction. It noted the milestone the party achieved in the recent general election where it won as many as One governorship, 7 Senate, 34 House of Representatives and numerous States House of Assembly seats. It regretted that the number depleted after losing some seats through the courts while also hoping to gain more seats in the coming days through rerun elections.
