As the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC continue to interface with key stakeholders on preparations for the November 11 off cycle Governorship elections in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa States, Chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu has admonished civil society organisations accredited to monitor the election to adhere strictly to the code of conduct for election observation.
Prof Yakubu said this at the quarterly consultative meeting with the leadership of civil society organisations at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
The INEC boss who was emphatic that the agenda of the meeting was to intimate the CSO’s on preparations for the conduct of a hitch free and credible election said their demand to have unimpeded access to voting and collation locations during the polls is been sorted out with the security Agencies.
Responding on behalf of the CSOs, Tunde Bafunsho commended INEC for it’s determination to change the narrative in the conduct of credible elections in Nigeria, and also advanced reasons for an improved security arrangement.
According to INEC, 7,896 observers have been accredited to cover the off cycle Governorship elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa.
