Maternal Mortality: FG To Scale-Up Family Planning Interventions.

The Federal Government has expressed worry over the menace of maternal death in Nigeria saying it is committed to change the narrative.

Special Adviser to the President on Health Dr Salma Kolo gave the assurance at the ceremony to mark the 2023 World Population Day on Abuja.

He indicated plans by the government under the renewed hope initiative to make accessible family planning commodities and other related interventions that will safeguard the lives of mothers and children in Nigeria.

Kolo also disclosed plans by the Tinubu administration to priotise universal health coverage as the bedrock of health service delivery in the country.

Earlier, the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Hon Isa Kwarra represented by the Federal Commissioner, Anambra State, Chief Chidi Ezeoke initiated a conversation to stimulate renewed commitment to put women and girls at the centre of development, where they would be seen, heard and accepted.

Other speakers at the ceremony harped on the importance to promote gender equality in Nigeria.

The theme of this year’s edition of the World Population Day is Unleashing the Power of Gender Equality:Uplifting the Voices of Women and Girls to Unlock Our World’s Infinite Possibilities”.
