President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele from office.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Information in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA in Abuja.
The statement on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation said the suspension which is with immediate effect is sequel to the ongoing investigation of the office of the CBN Governor as well as the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
According to the statement “Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms”.
The suspension of Mr. Godwin Emefiele and the ongoing investigation may not be unconnected to his reform in the apex bank especially the naira redesigned policy as was interpreted by some people in the President’s camp during the electioneering period as a deliberate attempt by the CBN Governor to thwart his ambition.
