The Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, (TRCN) Prof. Josiah Ajiboye has described unqualified persons in the teaching profession as cheaters taking advantage of not just the pupils and students but the system in its entirety.

The TRCN boss said this in Abuja at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Council and INSTILL Education on bringing in new dynamics to the profession. Ajiboye who noted that over 70 percent of teachers in the south west are unqualified, said they lack the prerequisites to be registered by the Council.

The TRCN Registrar however explained that signing the MoU marks a milestone in the proposed collaboration between INSTILL Education and TRCN aimed at equipping Nigerian teachers with 21st century skills.

Highlighting the importance of the MOU as it affects teachers development, the Dean of Operation at Instill Education, Tom Parry, said it will focus on upskilling of in-service teachers.

The pilot phase of implementation of the MoU is expected to commence with a capacity building for eight weeks.
