Healthcare: NAFDAC Approves new Malaria Vaccine.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has granted approval for the use of R21 Malaria Vaccine in Nigeria.

Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye who revealed this at a news conference in Abuja said the vaccine is indicated for the prevention of clinical malaria in children within the age of 5 months to 36 months.

Adeyeye said the known and potential benefits of the R21 malaria vaccine produced in India outweighs it risks factors thereby supporting the manufacturer’s recommended use.

As expected, the NAFDAC boss outlined modalities resulting to the approval of the vaccine.

With this development, Nigeria has become the second country after Ghana to approve the R21 malaria vaccine with expectations to save millions of lives in the country.
