Its been 449 days since Leah Sharibu alongside 104 others were kidnapped by members of the Boko Haram sect. After concerted efforts by the Nigerian government, 104 of the girls were released except Sharibu, who was held back allegedly on the grounds of her refusal to renounce her religion. This sparked outrage across the country and in the international community as well. As today, 14th May, marks her 16th birthday, Non Governmental Organizations and well meaning Nigerians have come out in their numbers to commemorate this day for Leah, who till date remains in the clutches of her abductors.
