Ahead of Saturdays general election, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Prof Mahmood Yakubu has assured Nigerians of the commission’s readiness to deliver a free, fair and credible election.
Prof Yakubu gave the indication when he granted audience to the Commonwealth election observation mission led by former president of South Africa Thabo Mbeki at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The INEC boss who thanked the Commonwealth mission and other international observers groups for their robust recommendations in previous elections in the country said they form some of the innovations introduced by the commission to add value to the nations electoral process.
Earlier, Head of the Commonwealth delegation and former president of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki said their mission at the Commission is to ascertain the level of preparedness for the general election.
The delegation further noted that the outcome of Saturdays election will be significant not only for Nigeria but the entire African continent, hence the need for all stakeholders to ensure a free, fair and credible contest.
