The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire says, Nigeria has not been informed of the outbreak of any deadly flu from China by the World Health Organisation.
Dr Ehanire who made this known at the ministerial briefing on COVID-19 Response and Development in the Health sector, in Abuja, explained that relevant agencies are carrying out due diligence on arrivals at the nations port.
The Minister however advised the public to take preventive measures, like the use of face masks in public places and avoid crowded places, in order to prevent some respiratory infections.
Earlier in his remarks, Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, says 123 confirmed cases of diphtheria disease and 38 deaths in different parts of the country.
Represented by Director, Special Duties, Dr Priscilla Ibekwe, the NCDC boss hinted that the centre is supporting states to respond and control the spread of the outbreak.
Other health agencies also gave update on the COVID-19 Response and other developments in the sector.
Meanwhile, the need to ensure homes are ventilated, was also emphasized at the briefing.
