ITF, NECA Intensify Efforts For Inclusion Of TVET In Schools Curriculum
The Industrial Training Fund has again called on the Federal Government to urgently include Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in primary and secondary schools curriculum as it is done in other climes to develop the skills the younger generation.
The Director General, Industrial Training Fund, Joseph Ari made the call while playing host to the new Director-General of Nigerian Employees Consultative Association (NECA) Wale-Smatt Oyerinde in Abuja.
He said the ITF has been in the forefront advocating need for a change in the educational narrative of the country in order to catch develop pupils and students skills while they are still young. He said the agency is Focusing on National Apprenticeship and Traineeship system by expanding its centres.
The ITF boss also spoke on areas of partnership between the two agency which include tackling of rising unemployment rate in the country. The new Director-General, NECA, Wale-Smatt Oyerinde said the existing relationship with ITF will help in deepening the implementation of Technical Skills Development Programme in the country.
The Technical Skills Development Project is a joint initiative by the ITF and NECA designed to promote the availability of middle-level manpower with the appropriate Technical and Vocational Skills to meet identified needs of industries in Nigeria.
The training institutions currently provide empowerment in Information and Communication Technology, Mechanical Maintenance Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Machining and Pipe-fitting (Plumbing) Welding & Fabrication, and Production Welding Maintenance among others.
