The former governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke has urged Nigerians to remain optimistic on great things that lie ahead despite the insecurity and economic challenges facing the country.

Imoke made the plea in Abuja at the public presentation of a book written by a renowned civil activist, Otive Igbuzor titled Contemporary Issues on Development and Change in Nigeria.

At the unveiling of the book which attracted people from all walks of life, the former governor asked Nigerians to stop lamenting on the issues in the country but rather to engage in positive activities.

Also speaking, the author noted that the issues in the country motivated him to write the book saying that the reason why insecurity and other challenges facing Nigeria is not addressed is due to the fact that those in authority are not showing strong will to confront the issues.

Analysts are of the view that part of contemporary issues posing challenges to positive change in Nigeria are lack of sustainable development and the book reviewer agreed with the opinion while reviewing the book.

Other renowned civil activists that graced the occasion paid glowing tributes to the impact the author has made in the civil activism in Nigeria.

The author who has written other books on leadership development and rule of law also used the occasion to celebrate his 59th birthday during the unveiling of his new book.
